SOU "Sv. Sv. KIRIL I METODII" in Smolyan, Bulgaria
Primary and Secondary School “St. st. Cyril and Methodius” was founded in 1855. Our school is a public, non-profit organization. It is the biggest one in region Smolyan having students from 1st to 12th grade. We work with approximately 650 students from 7 to 18 years old. There are 56 teachers and 3 headmasters. Our school is the only school in the region with humanitarian specialization focusing on Bulgarian Language and Literature, English Language, German Language and History. Apart from language knowledge our students cultivate understanding of the surrounding world. The teaching techniques are focused on the particular needs of the students and successfully prepare them for the university entrance exams in Bulgaria and abroad.
Our students learn three foreign languages: English, Russian and German. The other leading subjects are: Bulgarian language and Literature, Geography, History, Social studies, Biology, Maths, Science, ICT, Art and Physical education. They also participate in various extracurricular activities, such as: dance, theatre, sport clubs, and charity organizations. Our students have many sport activities; playing football, volleyball, tennis, going swimming and skiing. They take part in some national and international competitions and different technical projects. Our school cooperates with local institutions such as the regional Inspectorate of Education, State Archives, Information Center Europe Direct, Youth Orthodox Charity Pure Hearts, Historical Museum, etc.
In our school there are some students with special education needs and students with different religions as well as ethnic and national backgrounds but it is no problem to work together because they integrate successfully in school life.
There are specialized class rooms, 6 computer halls, 2 conference halls, video hall, a library, gyms, playground and sport courts on the school campus. There is equipment for multimedia presentations in all classrooms, ICT. Medical services and psychologist consultations are available.
The main objectives of the schools are education through current digital tools, development of the students’ communication and personal skills through participation in international and national projects.
